It is unacceptable for door supervisors to face daily abuse. Everyone has the right to feel safe and respected at work. Employers, law enforcement, and society at large are responsible for ensuring a safe workplace for all, including door supervisors who play a crucial role in maintaining safety in public places like bars and nightclubs.
Door supervisors, security guards or guest safety officers , should be treated with professionalism and respect, given the challenging situations they often face dealing with difficult individuals. Society as a whole should recognize the important role these individuals play in maintaining public safety and promote awareness campaigns to educate people about treating them with dignity.
The Security Industry Authority (SIA) are responsible for ensuring licensed individuals in the security industry are qualified and trained to carry out their responsibilities without posing a risk to the public. However, the SIA also has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of their license holders by providing guidance on personal safety and security and taking appropriate action when their safety is compromised.
It’s essential for regulatory bodies like the SIA to balance the needs and concerns of the public and those working in the industry and prioritize the safety and security of all stakeholders. Without the licensed individuals, the SIA would not exist, so they must ensure the safety of their license holders.
