Once upon a tense night in 2021, we found ourselves facing a potentially disastrous situation, but through sheer teamwork and courage, we emerged unscathed.
As the event approached, we realized the client had severely underestimated the importance of venue security. Despite being a mere seven security personnel for a gathering of 550 people, we took our responsibilities seriously. Frustratingly, some of our decisions were overruled, setting the stage for a perilous evening.
By 6:30 pm, anxiety crept in, and I felt compelled to call my husband, warning him that my safety was uncertain. Little did I know that within five minutes of that call, chaos would erupt. A fight was called over the radio, and the situation escalated as one of our team members confronted an individual brandishing a menacing knife.
Swiftly, we transitioned into a mode of containment and control, closely monitoring the tense confrontations that unfolded around us. We were told that respect for our security team meant that we had to step aside when things got serious. Yet, we remained undeterred, as we found ourselves thrust into the midst of a dangerous gang feud.
Determined to ensure everyone’s safety, we worked tirelessly, pushing ourselves beyond the limits to protect each and every person present that night. Our bond transcended that of mere colleagues; we were a family united by our commitment to safeguarding lives.
Among us were parents, individuals with a bright future ahead, and all of us cherished by our loved ones. The night could have ended in tragedy, but we persevered, unharmed. The venue staff and customers also made it through unscathed, and for that, we were thankful.
Notably, we were the first responders, arriving on the scene before even the fire, police, and ambulance services. Our extensive medical training proved invaluable, as we saved six lives that night within the venue. Moreover, our negotiation and people skills had spared countless females from potentially dangerous situations.
We wish for people to realize that we are not just mere enforcers of a license; we are vital protectors of safety and well-being. Our commitment mirrors that of the emergency services, yet our pay fails to reflect the gravity of our responsibilities.
I owe my life and the ability to write this account to the amazing individuals I have the privilege to work with at the door. Without their unwavering support, yesterday’s events could have had a drastically different outcome. We stand as a testament to the importance of a competent and valued security team.
